"Invited by the School of Science, on the morning of June 28th, Professor Weihong Guo, Chair of the Department of Applied Mathematics at Case Western Reserve University in the United States, gave a lecture at our school. The lecture titled 'Segmentation Networks for Small Training Set Images based on Multigrid Variational Models' was held in Room 406 of the Guangxue Building for the faculty and students of our school. Dean Li Huan of the School of Science presided over the presentation.

Professor Guo primarily introduced image segmentation methods in the field of medical imaging and the specific application of deep learning methods in image segmentation. Particularly emphasized was the replacement of manually designed regularization terms in the MS model with data-adaptive generalized learnable regularization terms. Additionally, the utilization of a multigrid framework to unfold the MS model resulted in a variational model-based segmentation network with enhanced generalizability. The multigrid framework facilitated multiscale feature extraction and provided a mathematical explanation for the effectiveness of U-shaped network structures, thereby yielding superior image segmentation results.

Professor Weihong Guo currently serves as the Chair of the Department of Applied Mathematics at Case Western Reserve University in the United States and has made significant original research contributions in image processing and inverse problems. He has published nearly 50 papers in prestigious journals such as 'SIAM J. Imaging Sciences,' 'Inverse Problems and Imaging,' 'Information Sciences,' 'Journal of Computational and Applied Mathematics,' 'IEEE Transactions on Image Processing,' 'IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology,' 'Magnetic Resonance Imaging,' and 'Magnetic Resonance in Medicine.' He has also served as a reviewer for over 20 international conferences and journals. Since 2012, he has been an editorial board member for the international journal 'Inverse Problems and Imaging' and has previously served as a guest editor for the 'International Journal of Biomedical Imaging.'"
